Frame parts – the foundation of the bike's structure and performance. The frame parts form the structural core of the bike, connecting all of the bike's components and determining ride comfort, stiffness and durability. The frame is designed to withstand the forces generated during riding and to ensure efficient power transfer from the pedals to the tyres. Key frame parts: Head tube: Connects the fork to the frame and enables steering. The headset is fitted into the head tube, allowing the fork to move. Bottom bracket shell: Located at the bottom of the frame, this is where the crankset and bottom bracket attach. It handles power transfer and withstands the greatest forces generated by pedalling. Seat tube: Supports the seatpost and allows the saddle height to be adjusted. Rear triangle: Connects the rear wheel to the frame. It can be rigid or include linkages on full suspension bikes. The rear triangle affects the bike's stability and agility. Top tube and down tube: These frame tubes form the main part of the frame and, through the bike's geometry, affect its ride feel. Rear linkages and pivot points: On full suspension bikes, the rear linkage enables the rear suspension to function. Materials: Aluminium: Light, durable and affordable. Carbon fibre: Extremely light and stiff, but more sensitive to impacts. Steel: Durable and comfortable, but heavier. Titanium: Light and nearly indestructible, but expensive. Maintenance and inspection: Checking the frame is important, especially after crashes and impacts. Cracks, bends and scratches can weaken the frame's durability. Regularly washing and inspecting the frame extends its lifespan and maintains safety.
